How to Import Sites from earlier version of 3D-FTP

All 3D-FTP Site Manager data is stored in the SITES.INI file. When you install and run 3D-FTP 9.0 first time, it prompts you to import the Site Manager data from the earlier version of 3D-FTP installed on the same system. The dialog box is opened that lists all SITES.INI files in default install locations. If the file you want to import is listed, just select it, and click OK to import it. If the file you want to import is not shown in the list, you need to manually locate the file.


Manually locating SITES.INI file


If 3D-FTP does not automatically find the SITES.INI file you want to import, you need to manually locate the file. The best way to find all instances of SITES.INI files in the computer, is to use Windows Search-feature. In Windows XP, this command is located in the Start-menu > Search > Search for files and folders. In Vista and Windows 7, its located directly in the Start-menu. After this command is selected, enter SITES.INI as search file name criteria. Under advances options, make sure that following options are selected:

·Search system folders  
·Search hidden files and folders  
·Search subfolders  

In Windows Vista and Windows 7 you might need to select Advanced Search options, and then select "Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files" check box to locate all instances of SITES.INI.


Default install locations for SITES.INI file


The default install folder of SITES.INI file depends on Windows version you are using. Here is the list of the most common folders:

3D-FTP 9.x

·C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SiteDesigner\3D-FTP  
·C:\ProgramData\SiteDesigner\3D-FTP  

3D-FTP 8.x

·C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\3D-FTP  
·C:\ProgramData\3D-FTP  

3D-FTP 7x and earlier

·C:\Program Files\3D-FTP  


Importing SITES.INI file


After you find the SITES.INI file you want to import, do as follows:

1.Write down the path where SITES.INI file is found  
2.Select 3D-FTP menu Site > Import Sites-command  
3.Select 3D-FTP from the drop down list, and click Get Sites-button  
4.Import Sites - Locate SITES.INI window opens  
5.Click Browse... button  
6.Now browse to the SITES.INI file at path you wrote down in step 1  
7.Click OK to select it and a list of all sites in the file  
8.Select all sites you want to import  
9.Click Import-button  

Now imported sites are shown in the Site Manager.

NOTE! You can also import whole SITES.INI file, including its structure and all sites in it, by copying SITES.INI file to the proper folder. You can read more here.
